My Week in Segues #1

New category in honour of one of my favourite journalistic devices/mode of transport – segues!

The brilliance of an individual segue is measured by how different the subjects are that it’s bridging, and how few planks (or words, we’re not actually building a bridge duffers) are used. If you can connect mandarins and genital warts in 3 words or less, Tracy Grimshaw might as well step down now. If you want to play at home, go to Wikipedia, think of 2 polar opposite subjects, and try and connect the 2 by clicking on the blue link-words, go on, Settlers of Catan to Alan Rickman. Personally, the tackier, the better.

Speaking of better, i AM feeling a little better, thanks for asking. I was crook this past week- thus the lack of kewl blog posts.

Speaking of things that are sick- The Stone Roses played their first show in 16 years!!! Made of Stone would be up there in the all-timers for me. Yeah, Stereogum told me that it was free for 1000 people, you just had to bring a piece of Stone Roses memorabilia for admission. For the rest of us 7 Billion people who missed out, make their setlist on iTunes, call your friends over and pray for an Australian tour. And if you don’t have them in your collection, first hang your head in shame and either amend this or go to Spotify.

Speaking of Spotify, how sick’s Spotify! Launching in Australia this week, it’s a real game changer. Jono Seidler did a neat write up about Spotify Anxiety over at Pedestrian. Some noted effects on our consumption include:
-kid locked in toy store over night syndrome. Except instead of overnight it’s forever, and there are millions of songs, and you have to hear them all right now. I’m the worst- i’ve jumped from old Of Montreal to new Lotus Plaza to Orange Juice to Grimes to Jack White to BJM to Bruce Springsteen- it never ends.
-sharing music wiv frendz/spying on what they’re listening too
-another shift in our attitudes towards music and hard copies (bye bye CDs).
I’m just using the free version now and it’s working out fine, you can grin and bear the odd add here and there. What i can’t grin and bear though is that there’s no Adele on Spotify! And no OPOSSOM (yet).

Speaking of OPOSSOM, get your fix in the meantime with debut album, Electric Hawaii, streaming over here! Looks destined for end of year top ten lists. The live and album reviews are on their way.

Speaking of ‘on their way’, i’ve also got a BJM live and album review in the works, an AUSHOWCASE with Melbourne-koolkat Bored Nothing and a half-yearly wrap up, all in the next few weeks- i’ll try and post twice a week, even if it’s just a deceiving article like this one where i pretend to talk about something interesting but actually don’t.

Speaking of this article, it’s about segues.

Speaking of segues, we’ve come full circle. Super lazy.
